A SIX-WEEK-OLD rape victim has received a R50,000 donation from music promoters Maverick State.
The infant from Galeshewe in Kimberley, Free State is referred to as baby Lerato to protect her identity. She is now six months old.
The toddler is recovering at home with the help of her unemployed mother.
Baby Lerato was raped by her uncle in November last year.
The uncle is currently in custody awaiting psychiatric evaluation.
"We were struggling... but but thanks to this donation, things will be much easier. I will be able to buy more nappies for her and also use the money for taxi fare when I take her for her check-up at hospital," said the child's grateful mum.
She added that has forgiven her brother because she believes the only way to move forward from this terrible ordeal is to make peace with it.
"My daughter is a happy child. She's strong and I believe she will get through this situation. She still has five more operations to go through and then hopefully her colostomy bag will finally be removed," she added.
Maverick State CEO Mbuso Thabethe said the incident had upset him.
"Even though there's nothing we can do to undo this, we felt something needed to be done to help secure her future. When we heard about the incident, we promised to assist the family and revamp their house," said Thabethe.
The company also bought paint, a cot and nappies, new furniture which included a new stove, fridge, a double bed, chairs and sofas.
Burglar bars for the baby's room were also erected.
"We will also be making a monthly contribution towards the welfare of the child and her unemployed mum," added Thabethe.
