A 22-YEAR-OLD Midlands State University (MSU) student yesterday appeared in the Gweru Magistrates’ Court facing charges of assaulting a lecturer and a fellow student for trying to restrain him during an argument at a local night club.
Nigel Toma punched and slapped lecturer Simbarashe Moyo before striking a fellow student Takudzwa Vengesai with an empty beer bottle.
Toma pleaded guilty to two counts of assault when he appeared before Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga and the case was remanded to September 11 for sentencing.
The State said August 31 at around 1.30am, Toma slapped and punched Moyo several times on the face at a night club after he had tried to restrain him during an argument with another man.
Moyo sustained a cut in the head as a result of the assault.
The State further alleged that on the same day, Toma pushed Vengesai twice before striking him with an empty beer bottle on the head when he tried to intervene in the same scuffle.
Vengesai sustained a cut in the head, but the medical reports of both complainants were still being processed.
