Becoming a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer is proving to be a risky job as members of the public will surely beat you up if you cross their paths.
Not only are ordinary people eager to rehearse the 'Batai Munhu' action on police officers, even Budiriro-based church members of the Johane Masowe apostolic sect can turn their 'holy sticks' into button sticks and beat the living day lights out of any policeman who dares to oppose their way of doing 'business'.
In another and fresh encounter that saw two police officers being thoroughly bashed, a Beatrice man ended up being sentenced to three years in prison as punishment for exhibiting his KUNG-FU skills on the cops who were quizzing him over a theft case that they were investigating on.
Tonderai Ganhura (27) from New Heaven Farm was yesterday sentenced on his own plea of guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Lazarus Murendo.
The court heard that on October 8 last year, Constables Farai Nyabasa and Obert Marungisa were assigned to investigate Ganhura and his alleged accomplice Israel Ganhura over a theft case that had occurred at the farm.
Prosecutor Zuvarashe Mushayabasa told the court that Tonderai turned violent and punched the police officers as they attempted to handcuff him.
Other family members and friends joined in the brawl and pummeled the police officers with logs and iron bars, forcing them to flee for dear life.
