Mabvuku kombi accident kills 4 on the spot, injures 13 (PHOTO) Four people died on the spot while 13 others were seriously injured when a kombi they were travelling in to Mabvuku from Harare's Central Business District burst its tyre before overturning, police said last night.

National police spokesperson, Charity Charamba said the kombi was carrying 20 passengers – a figure that is way above its carrying capacity and could also have been speeding.

"We are appealing to kombi drivers to value life and be cautions when they are carrying people. We have noted with concern that most drivers are reckless on the road and this is causing unnecessary accidents," she said.

Charamba said it was worrying that in the past three days, more than 12 people have died in two separate road accidents.

"As police, we are worried about these accidents and it's painful that 13 people have died, within three days, on our roads," she said.

On Sunday, eight people, among them three infants, died on the spot when a Mercedes-Benz they were travelling in collided head on with a haulage truck, along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

Charamba said motorists should be very cautious on the roads and take all precautionary measures before overtaking in order to avoid accidents.

She added that drivers should also avoid overloading their vehicles and check their tyres always, as the rain season approaches.
