THE Mkwaiwa family seems to be cursed. Last month, SOUTH AFRICA based Zimbabwean businessman and music promoter Prosper Mkwaiwa escaped death by the skin of his teeth when he was flung out the window of his Mercedes-Benz ML and suffered memory loss.
Now, his wife, Tina, has joined him in their "sickbed" as she also nearly met her creator. Tina survived an accident when the brakes of her car, a Mercedes-Benz S500, failed to work before she hit a truck and a bridge.
The accident occurred last week on the exact same route that nearly cost Prosper his life. It's understood Tina hit a bridge and a truck when the brakes failed. Her friends said she was heading home from a business meeting in Pretoria. Coincidentally, her husband got involved in a deadly accident as he was also heading home from a business meeting, along the very same road.
"Tina didn't know the car had problems. She failed to negotiate a bend and tried to hit the brakes but the car didn't stop. She hit a truck from the back and swayed towards the bridge. She was lucky because it didn't hit the bridge hard," a friend of Tina's said.
Tina sustained injuries to her leg and hand but was fortunate enough not to suffer any major injuries.
When contacted, Tina confirmed that she was involved in an accident.
"It seems there are people out there who are bewitching us. But they won't win. I'm grateful that I didn't get hurt. I don't know what is really happening in our lives. Bad luck seems to be following us wherever we go. That car's brake system failed and I tried to control it but hit the bridge and the truck," she said.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Prosper is on the road to recovery. Three weeks ago it was further reported that the record label owner seemed to have lost his memory due to head injuries he suffered from his accident.
Just after Prosper got involved in an accident, his wife described the condition as 'really bad'.
"It's true, my husband was involved in an accident yesterday morning on his way home from a meeting. His condition is really bad. I can't see him right now because he is in theatre. I am traumatised, I could not identify him when I saw him lying in bed with tubes, I am confused, can't sleep and highly stressed. I don't know if he will be able to talk, or walk when he recovers. I am anxious," she said.
Tina said mishaps keep happening to the couple. Just three months ago she survived a car crash.
She said: "I don't know what is happening, we both have been in accidents now and it was the same thing with me."
Mkwaiwa became a celebrity in South Africa in year 2000 when he married actress Tina Jaxa in an extravagant wedding. The couple soon became tabloid fodder with their many fights and their habit of airing their dirty laundry in public. They went their separate ways after two children, child support drama and a protracted divorce.
Mkwaiwa then "poached" singer Kelly Khumalo from her management and became her new manager, business partner in ProKelly Entertainment and later fiancé. That relationship also bit the dust in a public and messy way.
Mkwaiwa married his current wife, singer Tina Dlangwana, in 2010. In 2012, they were shot in their hotel room at Morula Sun in Mabopane by an intruder they claimed had followed Dlangwana into the room and tried to force them to have sex in front of him.
Sometime after the incident, Dlangwana accused Mkwaiwa of being behind the shooting, which he denied. The two later reconciled.
