The Harare City Council and the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) have pooled US$4,1 million for the rehabilitation of major roads in the capital.
In what could be a response to the outcry over the poor state of the roads in Harare and surrounding areas, the city council mobilised UU$1,5 million while ZINARA disbursed US$2,6 million for the rehabilitation of major roads which have become an eyesore.
The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Dr Ignatius Chombo toured some of the road portions where rehabilitation works are being carried out and admitted that concerns raised by motorists are genuine.
The work being carried out include; pothole patching, application of overlays, reseals and rehabilitation.
The city council intends to use the money for installation of streets lights and traffic signals, clearing of storm water drains and road markings, among other initiatives.
Meanwhile, there is a joke which has since gone viral on social network platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook which reads: "Kuwanda kwakaita mapotholes muZimbabwe ungati kwanga kune Worldcup yenhodo".
