From long back, there has always been certain things that only women would do. One of them, which is still evident in some areas today is 'Chinamwari'. There has been reports of commotion in Harare as both men and women jostle to be taught 'chinamwari' in a bid to satisfy their spouses in bed.
Last week another publication had an interview with Sekuru Mbewe Kachuruka (42), one of the chinamwari 'lecturers', who trains both men and women in Harare. Sekuru Kachuruka teaches men and women how to perform exceptionally well in bed. He also sells various traditional herbs in the city centre.
"I train women, girls, boys and men how to please their loved ones in bed. It's my responsibility to ensure that marriages do not collapse. For marriages to stand still, it's not a matter of cooking sadza only but spicing up sex life also plays a pivotal role - after being taught by those with experience. Chinamwari involves consuming sexual-enhancing herbs and creating traditional waist laces (chuma chemuchiuno)," said Sekuru Kachuruka.
Explaining what the waist lace is all about, Sekuru Kachuruka said: "The waist lace is worn by women on their waist. It's not for men. Women choose the colours that blend with their complexion, so that the husband gets attracted as he looks at it," he said.
He said some traditional medicines are used to make the waist lace and it helps to draw the man closer to his woman. He added that the waist lace helps to make the woman's waist more flexible - a crucial ability one must possess in making sex more enthusiastic. Sekuru Kachuruka revealed that even though men attend his lessons, they are always far less than the number of women who attend his chinamwari lessons.
"In a month we can get 10 new men who come to get chinamwari lessons. In the same period we get around 35 women or more. Chinamwari is a word derived from Chewa language (chinamwali) which means training. Therefore people go to receive training on various things such as how to make a man horny, be it in the morning or when he returns from work. Sex does not begin in the bedroom only, but can even start in the kitchen when the man utters seducing words like telling his wife how beautiful she is," he added.
He said there are men or women who do not even wish to have sex with anyone else, yet during the night they dream about themselves being intimate with someone else.
"This is what we call mubobobo and in Chewa we call it 'gondwa waturuka', meaning rat come out. There are men and women who use mubobobo so change into a rat in the evening, then walk out of a locked door. He will change back into a human being during sex. The victim (usually a woman) will wake up the following day and feel so tired. She would have lost all the zest for sex with her lover," he said.
On organs that are 'too watery', Sekuru Kachuruka said: "Sex is what keeps marriages strong. If it's not pleasing then the marriage is bound to collapse. We teach some women how to 'make up' their organs so that they can have 'twins' and we also give them concoctions that drain excess fluids from their organs. Chinamwari is just like school, the student must obey his/her teacher," he said.
The 'school of sex lecturer' said they only enroll those aged between 16 and 60 or above. He urged men to give their wives some break whenever they are not feeling well or during menstrual cycle.
"There are some men who never give women a break even when they are on their menstrual cycle. Its her time to rest and it's dirty. If a man's organ gets in contact with that blood, it can end up making the man fall sick as he might suffer from stomach pains," he said.
Another chinamwari lecturer, who identified herself as Mai Mary Mlambo of Chitungwiza, explained how they conduct their lessons.
"I train chinamwari in Unit O at my house. There will be women only but one woman would need to act like a man as we teach each other some sex tips and tricks. At times we use 20kg mealie meal bags or even 60kg bags. We will place the bag on top of the woman while she will be lying facing upwards. There are some traditional medicines that we apply on the woman's waist so as to make it flexible," she said.
She said her lessons take one week for one to fully grasp everything.
