A Binga man in Matabeleland North province will live to remember the above saying after he was thrown behind bars a few days after his wedding day.

The 42-year-old kept his HIV status a secret from his new-wedded wife. He had unprotected sex with his wife and the woman only got to know about his status when she came across his medication in the house.

The shocked woman reported the matter to the police and he was arrested on charged of deliberately infecting someone with HIV.

When the unfortunate newly married woman made the report, she tested HIV negative, but the doctor did not rule out that she could have got the virus, arguing that she must test again after three months.

Her husband was convicted after a full trial and sentenced to five years in prison.

In passing the sentence, magistrate Aileen Munamadzi said the man deserved a stiff penalty considering that he was so reckless. The court heard that the man married the 21-year-old woman in June and never mentioned his HIV status.

He only told the woman that he had divorced his previous two wives because whenever he wanted to have sex with them, his manhood disappeared.

The two lovebirds were enjoying sex and the unsuspecting woman told her husband that she wanted it 'live and direct' saying condoms had a terrible smell. Since then, the couple has been sweating it out, enjoying the juicy act without any protection until the woman discovered ARVs just after the two eventually wedded.
