Business came to stand still in Jerera on Saturday afternoon when people rushed to catch a glimpse of a naked man.
Onismo Mozongomi (27) of Zvinamano Village under Chief Nhema in Zaka who had snatches away US$40 from a Grade 4 boy removed his clothes upon realising that people had identified him.
The 'mad thief' walked around Jerera Growth Point only wearing a dirty and heavily loaded underwear in a bid to try and pretend as if he had become mentally challenged. However, members of the public would not buy any of it. They reportedly gave him a thorough beating before effecting citizen arrest. After dealing with him, he was then handed over to police to 'do the rest'.
Muzongomu later appeared in court on Monday facing a theft charge.
The State led by Douglas Mapolisa alleges that the 27-year-old thief snatched US$40 from a Zaka primary school Grade 4 boy's pockets and took to his heels.
The man pleaded not guilty and magistrate Constance Mutandwa remanded him in custody to 14 July.
