Zaka is in shock after an incident in which a Form Two pupil was raped by an unknown assailant who left her tied to a tree before running away from the scene near Jerera Growth Point last week.
The pupil at St Joseph Munjanja High School near Jerera Growth Point suffered some deep knife cuts on both hands as she tried to fight off her assailant.
Though Masvingo police provincial spokesperson was not available for comment by the time of going to press, Zaka police confirmed the development and said the rapist was still on the run.
The incident happened early in the morning when the girl was on her way to school. The rapist dragged her a few metres off the road and threatened to kill her if she dared scream or attempt to run away. She was then stabbed on both hands as she tried to resist before she was forced onto the ground and raped once.
After rape, the girl was tied to a tree and the rapist fled the scene. She was later rescued by passersby who heard her screaming and the matter was then reported to the police. The rapist is still on the run. A medical report confirmed the rape.
