Two more bogus police officers who mounted a fake roadblock near State House and tried to rob an unsuspecting motorist were yesterday remanded in custody after the State told the court that their docket is still being processed. Innocent Pamire, 32, and Khadri Amin, 43, are being jointly charged with Martin Ndoorwi, 27, on charges of attempting robbery and kidnapping. The trio appeared before Harare magistrate Barbra Chimbodza who remanded them in custody to March 23 for their routine remand. Circumstances leading to their arrest are that on February 24 this year, Ndoorwi and his accomplices who are still at large, stopped one Milton Shumba who was in the company of his wife, Elizabeth Tshuma.

It is alleged that the gang was driving a Toyota Chaser which they used to block the complainant’s car, a Ford Ranger. The state alleges that Ndoorwi and another man, who was in police uniform, disembarked from the car while others remained inside. It is said Ndoorwi approached Shumba and accused him of driving through a red traffic light at St George’s College. They then ordered Shumba’s wife to go and sit in their car while they got into his car and ordered him to drive back to the State house.

It is alleged that as they approached the entrance to the State House, the accused ordered Shumba to pass and drive towards Botanical Gardens alleging that they wanted to use the back entrance. The court also heard that the fake officers demanded to drive the car themselves but Shumba refused after suspecting they were thieve. They are alleged to have wrestled with Shumba in an effort to get control of the vehicle resulting in an accident. The two are said to have taken to their heels, resulting in Ndoorwi being apprehended by members of the public.

On realizing what had happened, those who had remained in the Toyota Chaser sped away with Shumba’s wife and dumped her in Mt Pleasant. Ndoorwi is alleged to have implicated Pamire, Amin, Gondo and one suspect only identified as Joe leading to their arrest. It is alleged that after the arrest Pamire led the detectives to the recovery of the getaway car and the apprehension of Amin, who was found in possession of a pair of handcuffs and a police identity card. Audrey Chogumaira appeared for the State.
