At least six people died while six others were injured in a road traffic accident along the Mutare-Shamhu road on Monday, the police said.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the accident occurred after a truck which was carrying timber and 14 passengers veered off the road and overturned.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 9 km peg along Mutare-Shamhu Road on 29 August 2022 at around 1600 hours, where six people died while six others were injured after a motorist driving a Mazda T35 carrying timber with 14 passengers on board went off the road and overturned once,” the police said.
“Names of victims will be released in due course.”
In an unrelated incident, the police arrested Philip Dewa (40) for murder, after he allegedly fatally assaulted Munyaradzi Mucheche (25) at Antony Shops, Hopley Zone 4, in Harare.
Elsewhere, Karoi police launched an investigation into a case where a man died upon admission to hospital after he was found stabbed.
“Police in Karoi are investigating a murder case where a man (35) was found lying unconscious at Salas Flee Market near Karoi main bus terminus. The victim, who was bleeding excessively, had a stab wound on the right thigh. He was taken to Karoi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on admission,” police said.
