A man from Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb died after he reportedly jumped off a speeding truck.
A source said Bruce Ncube (age not supplied) was given a lift at Esigodweni area in Cowdray Park with the intention of going to Tshampu village at Redbank, Umguza district to visit his relatives.
“It was at around 9pm last week on Friday when Ncube was offered the lift by the truck driver and his colleague at Esigodweni area. Ncube sat at the back of the truck,” said the source.
The source added: “The driver was heading to Khami to fetch sand. And when they arrived at Tshampu village, the driver stopped the vehicle and when he checked at the back of the truck there was nobody. After that he continued with his journey as they thought he jumped off the truck to avoid paying.”
On the same day at around 11.30pm he returned along the same road and as they were a few metres away from the bus stop at Redbank they saw a body lying in the middle of the road and stopped the vehicle.
“They disembarked from the truck and they were shocked to discover that it was the lifeless body of Ncube. After that they reported the incident at Cowdray Park police station,” said the source.
Ncube’s lifeless body was ferried to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for postmortem.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident. He strongly urged community members against dicing with their lives.
“We would like to warn members of the public not to risk their lives by jumping off speeding vehicles as that could lead to loss of life just like what happened to Bruce Ncube,” he said.
