A HUSBAND of a teacher at Msunduzi Finishing High School in Pietermaritzburg entered the school carrying a gun.

He was fuming when he demanded to see his wife.

The principal intervened and tried to protect his staff member by blocking the angry husband at the reception so he couldn’t go further into the school.

However, this was the end for the 66-year-old!

The man pointed the gun at the principal, shot him multiple times and he died at the scene.

This happened a few minutes after teaching and learning had began on Thursday, 8 September.

KZN education spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said the armed man entered the school threatening to shoot his wife, who is a teacher.

“The principal tried to calm him down and blocked him from going beyond the reception area. The gunman shot the principal. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away,” said Mahlambi.

KZN police spokeswoman Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said it is alleged that at 8.30am, the woman was at her workplace, which is a school in Pietermaritzburg, when she was visited by an aggressive man.

“An argument ensued between the two and the school principal tried to calm the situation but he was shot numerous times,” said Ngcobo.

She said he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A case of murder was opened at Pietermaritzburg Police Station for investigation,” said Ngcobo.

Meanwhile, in another incident, two security guards were gunned down during an armed robbery in a gun shop in Mark Lane in the Durban CBD.

Ngcobo said: “We can confirm the incident, however, the members are still at the scene.”
