A BOYFRIEND allegedly suspected his girlfriend was cheating.
He apparently demanded to go through her phone, but she refused.
The 25-year-old boyfriend allegedly started hitting the woman with his fists and when she tried to leave the room, he stopped her and continued assaulting her.
The girlfriend allegedly reached out for a kitchen knife and stabbed the man once in the abdomen.
Captain Bernard Matimulane said the boyfriend was rushed to the local clinic, but died a short while later.
A 24-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday, 7 September in Ivory Park extension 2, Gauteng for allegedly murdering her live-in boyfriend.
Ivory Park police station commander Brigadier David Ngcobo has expressed shock at this death which, he said, could have been avoided if people in relationships learnt to look for signs of a potential abuser.
“More often victims tend to ignore these signs. Going through someone’s phone without their consent, are some of the signs of iskhwele (jealousy),” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
“It’s advisable that when in such a situation, the person should seek help as soon as possible to avoid a tragedy such as this.”
The woman will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates Court, facing murder charges.
