A man who has been on the run for allegedly converting to his own use US$10 069,00 that was mistakenly transferred to his bank account teamed up with his girlfriend and physically attacked a taxi driver for allegedly prop0sing love to his lover.

A source told B-Metro that an employee of a fuel station (name supplied) located in Harare mistakenly transferred US$10 069,00 to Takavada Mbondiya (35)’s personal bank account. Upon seeing the money in his bank account Takavada allegedly converted it to his personal use.

The fuel station authorities realised the mistake after some days and reported the matter to the police.

An insider at the fuel station said Takavada got wind that detectives were hunting for him and he fled and settled in Kwekwe.

While he was in Kwekwe he went on a spending spree and one of his girlfriends gave detectives a tip-off and again he gathered that detectives were hunting for him and he then skipped to Bulawayo’s Mpopoma suburb.

While he was in Bulawayo he hooked up with a lady of the night and they hired a taxi to ferry them to Mpopoma suburb and when they reached their destination, Takavada refused to pay the fare and bolted out of the car.

“He walked for a few metres and made a U-turn after realising that his girlfriend was still in the car and charged at the taxi driver while hurling insults at him accusing him of prop0sing love to his lover before he kicked him and hit him with fists, leaving him lying on the ground,” the insider said.

The driver later reported the incident to the police. Detectives from Western Commonage police station sniffed around and gathered that Takavada was boozing at a shebeen situated in the suburb and arrested him.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
