A man from New Magwegwe suburb in Bulawayo has been sentenced to four months imprisonment for severely bashing his wife with fists after they had a heated argument over a duvet that his wife had bought.

Ephraim Mlilo (44) appeared for trial at Western Commonage Court before Magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a physical abuse charge. He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Mlilo has until 18 November to pay an $18 000 fine for the offence or serve the four months imprisonment.

A court heard that Mlilo came home in the evening and got surprised when he saw a new duvet spread on their matrimonial bed.

He then quizzed his wife Sitshengisiwe Mhlanga (36) on where she got the money to buy the new duvet but she refused to disclose where she got the money from.

An argument broke out and at the height of it Mlilo severely bashed his wife with fists causing her to pass out, the court heard.

Mhlanga was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

Mlilo was arrested for physically attacking his wife.
