THE 44-year-old daughter says she can’t sleep as she keeps thinking about why someone would rap_e an old woman like her mother.
She said on 25 October, she was at work, her three kids at school and the 78-year-old gogo alone at home in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.
The daughter said that her mum told her a young man knocked at the door, asking for water and to use the bathroom.
“My mum gave him water and directed him to the bathroom inside the house. But when he was inside, he closed the door and rap_ed her in the dining room,” she told Daily Sun.
Fortunately, the daughter knocked off early and got home before the kids, where she found the gogo in the dining room.
“Her bottom half was nak_ed and there was blood on the sofa. She was in shock. It took time for her to tell me what had happened,” said the daughter.
They went to the police station, and then the gogo was admitted to hospital.
The daughter said she was suspecting the rap_ist to be someone who knew her mum would be alone during the day.
“Gogo doesn’t know the face, but I believe the young man knows our family movements.”
She said that she had been hoping to notice anything out of the ordinary for the past few days.
“I was hoping to see somebody looking over at our house, but I didn’t.”
Her mum is still in hospital, but she’s a bit better.
“I’m really hurt and I wish I was there to protect her. You can’t be safe, even in your own home. It’s disgusting,” she said.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said a rap_e case was opened and under investigation.
He urged anyone with information that might help with the investigation to kindly come forward.
