POLICE in Bulawayo are hunting for a con woman who has been allegedly fleecing unsuspecting job seekers of their cash.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and said the woman has been mainly targeting desperate job seekers and she would present herself as a prospective employer.
“The cunning woman usually presents herself as a prospective employer and would target those people who are looking for employment. She would tell them that she offers a piece job at a higher rate so as to attract them,” said the acting Bulawayo police spokesperson.
She appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the woman.
“Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the wanted woman may contact any nearest police station or call us on 2229-60358,”she said.
Most of the time her targets fall for her bait.
“The unsuspecting people usually fall prey to her deceits as she would ask them to surrender their belongings. She would direct the victim to any building and soon after that she would disappear with the belongings or cash,” she said.
Last week on Saturday at around 11 am at corner 14th Avenue and George Silundika Street, the woman reportedly conned a 16-year-old girl of US$47, a source close to investigations said.
The source said members of the public tried to apprehend her but she escaped in a getaway car. The victim reported the incident at Bulawayo Central Police station.
