A Mberengwa man, his wife and daughter were last week robbed of US$1 215 and a Huawei cellphone valued at US$150 by two armed robbers on Tuesday last week.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to The Mirror.
According to Inspector Mahoko on November 8, 2022 at around 7 pm, Evans Masendeke Magwati (38) his wife Viola Mpala (39) and their daughter Shalom Magwati (18) from Mutshingwe Village in Mberengwa were about to retire to bed when they heard a knock at the door.
Shalom attended the door. One of the suspects pretended to be a genuine customer that wanted to buy airtime. Another suspect who was armed with an unidentified pistol grabbed her hand, twisted it, forced her to the ground and left her under the guard of another suspect.
“The armed suspect went into the house and demanded cash from Magwati and his wife while threatening to shoot them. Fearing for their lives, Mpala surrendered the cash which was under the pillow and the suspects fled from the scene and are still at large.
“The matter was reported to the police and we are appealing to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the two suspects to call the nearest police station,” said Inspector Mahoko.
