A NASH Furnishers IT manager was yesterday hauled to court for allegedly defrauding the company of more than US$4 000.

Tatenda Dondo was remanded in custody to today for bail considerations.

Two weeks ago, another Nash employee, Leona Maseva, appeared at the Mbare Court on a US$5 000 fraud charge.

The court heard that in December last year, Nash Furnishers decided to install a solar backup system at its Zvishavane branch in the Midlands.

Dondo was tasked with scouting for an ideal company to do the job.

The State said Dondo misled the company that he had found a suitable company called Axis Solutions, which could provide the required services.

Since NASH usually dealt with Axis Solutions, it agreed to give the company the tender.

NASH Furnishers was supposed to pay first before service could be provided.

On December 8, Dondo allegedly received US$2 060 to pay Axis Solutions.

A few days later, the equipment was installed by a company purporting to be Axis Solutions.

The company also decided to install another system in Chiredzi and again Dondo was tasked to get quotations.

He opted for the one he claimed to be Axis Solutions.

The company released US$2 460 for payment for the installation to Dondo.

When the system failed to work properly, NASH Furnitures engaged Axis Solutions to fix the problem.

Axis said it never supplied the equipment nor could it fix the equipment as it was not within their scope of work.

The company made a police report leading to Dondo’s arrest.
