A NYAZURA man, Kudzai Shambare, from Nyangome village in Makoni district, is reportedly on the run after he struck his friend four times on the head with a hoe in a dispute over US$10.
Police yesterday confirmed the death of Phillip Dafi from the same village, who was bludgeoned to death by Shambare following a misunderstanding over the money.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo said last Friday at around 5pm, Dafi and Shambare did a piece job together and they were paid US$10.
Muzondo said an argument arose over sharing of the US$10, with Shambare accusing Dafi of taking too long to give him his share.
The reason why Dafi had taken long to pay him was that he was allegedly still looking for change. However, Shambare did not accept the reason.
He then went to Dafi’s home armed with a hoe, confronted him over the issue and allegedly struck him four times on the head. Shambare then fled as neighbours rushed to the scene.
Dafi was rushed to Rusape General Hospital on the same day, but succumbed to the head injuries the next morning.
Police attended the scene and later recovered a blood-stained hoe at Shambare’s home.
“We are appealing to the members of the public for information on the whereabouts of Kudzai Shambare. We also urge the public to restrain themselves when they face such situations that they deem provocative. For one to arm himself and strike another, it shows serious disrespect to human life,” Muzondo said.
