A WORKER at Maseko Mine in Filabusi allegedly stoned his workmate to death in a heated dispute over torch batteries.
This was heard by Filabusi resident magistrate Mzingaye Moyo when Doit Ndlovu (28) from Jakatshaka village under Chief Sikhobokhobo in Nkayi appeared in court charged with the murder of Frank Manjokoto ((29) of Tofa village under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera.
Ndlovu was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody to August 8 before the provincial magistrate in Gwanda.
Ndlovu was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecuting, Smart Tafireyi told the court that on July 26, Ndlovu and Manjokoto had a dispute over torch batteries that were bought by the former, but taken by the latter. The two engaged in a serious fight and efforts by their colleague Solomon Ncube to restrain them were futile.
Ncube just managed to snatch an iron bar Ndlovu wanted to strike Manjokoto with.
Ndlovu then picked up a stone and pounded Manjokoto three times on the head.
Manjokoto collapsed and died on the spot. Ndlovu's workmates effected a citizens' arrest and handed him over to the police.
