TWO South Africa based men, who had been hired by a South African woman to rob her Zimbabwean ex-boyfriend, were last week nabbed after a tip-off.
The duo was not asked to plead to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery when they appeared before Harare magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta, who remanded them in custody.
Fanuel Machando, 42, of house No. 903 Vilakazi Street, Poortye Vaalrand in Johannesburg and his neighbour, Elliot Ratema, 34, requested the court to proffer them an interpreter conversant with Zulu.
Machando is a Zimbabwean, who originates from Gutu district under Chief Nerupiri.
Their alleged accomplice, Zanele Nkosi, who recently separated with Tichaona Shonhiwa is on the run.
The State represented by Sebastian Mutizirwa is alleging that on November 26 the duo sneaked into Zimbabwe from South Africa armed with a 9mm Star pistol that had erased serial numbers.
The State further alleged that Machando and Ratema wanted to rob Shonhiwa who resides in Vainona as they had been instructed by Nkosi.
When the two arrived in Harare, they sought shelter from a squatter camp in Groombridge where they carried out surveillance on their target.
An informer residing at the camp is alleged to have seen the accused’s firearm in one of their bags and he informed members of the Zimbabwe National Army, who apprehended the two and recovered the pistol.
Their matter will be heard today.
