A CHIVI man who hacked his wife to death with an axe after a domestic dispute before fleeing to Beitbridge has handed himself over to the police.
Wilson Muzondo appeared before Chivi magistrate, Francis Mapfumo, last Thursday.
Muzondo, who was not formally charged, was remanded in custody.
Muzondo fled to the border town of Beitbridge in an attempt to cross into South Africa after committing the grisly act.
He however returned to Chivi where he surrendered himself to Chief Madyangove.
Muzondo is said to have told Chief Madyangove that he intended to attend his wife's funeral but was afraid that angry relatives would attack him.
He then pleaded with the chief to call the police to arrest him.
The court heard that Muzondo came home from a beer drink in the wee hours of Monday last week.
His wife, Simbayi, who was said to have been in the habit of verbally assaulting and harassing her husband, began physically assaulting him.
Muzondo then pulled out an axe and struck his wife on the head before disappearing from the scene.
Simbayi was later found dead by neighbours lying in a pool of blood at her homestead.
