Gunfire as police foil Delta Beverages robbery

There was an exchange of gun fire at Delta Mvurwi in the wee hours of yesterday between armed robbers and police details.

More than ten armed robbers reportedly pounced on Delta Beverages and Guard Alert companies targeting money safes.

Reliable sources told that the robbers first pounced on Guard Alert Company where they stole a rifle and $30 after failing to get cash in their safe, the gang then proceeded to Delta where they assaulted the salesman and robbed him off $353 altogether with the Guardian company gun.

“Over ten armed robbers stormed Guard Alert Company, where they assaulted people, robbed them of a gun and $30 before proceeding to Delta Beverages Company. At Delta they first attacked the sales man identified as Joseph Mutukudzi before robbing him of $352 company money,” explained the source.

When news crew visited Delta Beverages Mvurwi they saw the rampage in cashiers’ three offices and the destroyed safes which had been emptied by the robbers

In movie-style, it is further alleged that the police details fired their guns to register their presence and the robbers returned fire shouting ‘Vape Moyo’ (let them feel us).

After realizing that the police were advancing, the robbers jumped over the durawall and fled.

When contacted for comment, the police could not shed more light on the matter and they appealed to the public for more information saying the case is still under investigation.

“We are still investigating the matter hence we are appealing to members of the public to co-operate and bring any information in connection with the case”

However, the identities of some of the robbers were captured by Delta Beverages Closed –Circuit Television (CCTV). Bulawayo24
