19 people, including a three month old baby, escaped death by a whisker when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in overturned at the Chiremba and Glenara roads intersection in Harare this afternoon.
Only on the 31st of December, the President’s Office lost one of its senior officers, Mr Nickson Chirinda in a road traffic accident because of the recklessness of a haulage truck driver who suddenly made a u-turn in front of oncoming traffic.
Hardly two days into the new year, another traffic jungle was witnessed.
The commuter omnibus was travelling from Epworth towards Mbare and it overturned after the driver tried to beat the traffic light.
Some visibly shaken passengers could hardly explain what transpired just before the driver of the vehicle lost control, while one of the lucky passengers who escaped unhurt said the driver and the conductor immediately fled from the scene of the accident.
With blood all over her face, Mrs Matibiri who could hardly stand on her own was thankful that her three month old baby, Princess Matibiri did not sustain any serious injuries except a cut on her forehead.
Most of the people who rushed to the scene of the accident blamed the behaviour of some commuter omnibus drivers whom they say always seem to be in a rush.
Innocent lives continue to be lost on the country’s roads as a result of reckless driving, and in Princess’s case, her life was almost lost before it even began.
