The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education has dismissed as unfounded reports that the government will no longer be paying Early Childhood Development ECD teachers salaries.
Messages had been circulating on various platforms suggesting that parents are now supposed to cater for ECD teachers’ salaries, but the Minister dismissed the claims as false.
Professor Mavima said the government has only stopped employing more teachers for ECD classes but will continue paying those already employed.
Coming to the issue of textbooks for the new curriculum, Prof Mavima said it is the part of his ministry’s 100 day plan to ensure textbooks are sourced and will soon be distributed to various schools.
With a few days to go before schools open, Minister Mavima also dismissed claims that ECD and grade 1 pupils are being over burdened with requirements that are beyond the reach of many parents.
