A blind beggar was last week granted a peace order at the Harare Civil Court against her co-tenant, who is currently at Chikurubi Maximum Prison awaiting trial for attempted murder.
Emma Saliwe appeared before magistrate Nyasha Marufu seeking a protection order against her co-tenant, Francesca Banhura and her husband Tichaona Phiri, accusing the duo of insulting and harassing her.
“We live at the same house as tenants and they insult and harass me at my home,” Saliwe said.
She said her neighbour’s wife was awaiting sentencing for attempted murder after giving her a piece of candy laced with poison.
“Before she was arrested, she insulted and harassed me. She is awaiting trial for attempting to poison me,” she said.
When asked why she was seeking a peace order against a person who was currently in custody and awaiting trial at the criminal court, Saliwe claimed that Phiri visits her lodgings threatening her.
“He [Phiri] came to me and said that if his wife dies in prison, he will kill me,” she said.
