A 22-year-old Chipinge woman who confessed to being a prostitute was fined $60 for hitting a client with an empty beer bottle at a night club in the town.

Talent Qadini of House Number 24 ZBS appeared before Mr Makamera Waini facing assault charges.
She pleaded guilty to the offence.

However, she said she slapped the complainant with her hands and not with a bottle as alleged.

"Your Worship, I object that I hit the complainant with an empty bottle. Yes, I was holding an empty bottle, but it’s not true that I used it to hit him, maybe he is mistaking a fist and a bottle," she said.

Asked why they were fighting, she said the complainant was forcing her to do things which she did not like.

"The complainant was forcing me to do things which I turned down. He continued to force me but I rejected and this is when I started to slap him with open hands because I was not interested," she said

Prosecutor Ms Edith Phiri said on August 26, 2014 at Dzonzayi Night Club at around 3am, the accused was drinking beer with Elias Magoso and his friend. While they were merrymaking the two clashed after the complainant grabbed her.

"The accused then shouted at the complainant, stood on a bench and pushed him against the wall and subsequently hit him with an empty beer bottle. Magoso sustained a swollen face. A police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused," she said.

Mr Waini said: "You are being warned from committing any similar offences in the next 5 years but what is aggravating is that the accused used a dangerous weapon to hit the complainant. Usually the courts pass light sentences to first female offenders."

If she fails to pay the $60 she will be jailed for two months.
