With not so amazing Grace Mugabe now an academic doctor, opposition leader Tendai Biti, says he will never study for a doctorate degree because it has lost its status.
Biti, who is accused of being a pompous intellect, told members of the public, at a midterm fiscal policy organised by Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition in Harare on Wednesday evening, that he no longer has the vigour to read for the once revered PhD.
In just under two months, a feat unparalleled in the history of academic degrees, Mugabe's not so intelligent wife received a PhD, from the once prestigious but now questionable University of Zimbabwe.
Biti said Tapiwa Mashakada and Godfrey Kanyeze, who were participating in the discussion, are bona fide doctors, whose academic track record is traceable.
"I was telling them (Mashakada and Kanyeze) before we came here that gentlemen today I want to state publicly that I will never ever have a PhD for obvious reasons. You know what happened," Biti said.
Grace was on Friday last week conferred with a PhD degree with her husband Robert crowning her a doctor. The First Lady was capped along with Vice-President Joice Mujuru, whose academic background is traceable.
It is not clear when Grace registered for her PhD with UZ, but in the first week of July this year, it was reported that she had just registered for a doctorate with the institution.
When she was approached by a faction in Zanu PF to lead the Women's League, Grace, who is accused of being a shopaholic and profligate spender, claimed that she is a meek woman and tore into Biti, referring to the former MDC secretary general, as the Mr. I Know-it-all.
Referring to the coalition Cabinet's swearing in ceremony, Grace said: "Vamwe vese vakauya vachizvininipisa, vachizvininipisa, auya Biti zvikanzi ‘zvino zvawapihwa basa rehuMinister of Finance unorigona here, zvikanzi hapana chandisingagoni'. (Every appointee humbled themselves during swearing in except for Biti who, when asked if he was equal to the task of being Finance Minister, he replied ‘l know everything')"
Doctorates or no doctorates, Biti said President Robert Mugabe's Zanu PF is now tired and clueless.
"The ruling party is tired, old, and fragile. It is now torn apart by deep structural divisions which are now playing out in the government where we have ministers openly clashing. Zanu PF is clueless and tired and that party will never move us forward," Biti said.
The too-talkative former minister of finance was once the Secretary-General for MDC-T before he was fired together with his renewal team members after they betrayed Morgan Tsvangirai.
Since then, Biti has been attacking virtually everyone, including his former boss, Tsvangirai, whom he usually labels 'a Gumbura'. The 'nick name' did not go down too well with Tsvangirai who retaliated by telling the nation that Biti was involved in a car accident while he was in the comapny of his small house.
