A ZIMUNYA man was last week dragged to court for battering his wife using fists, open hands and biting her hand.
Appearing before Mutare senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura, Golden Mangwende (42) pleaded guilty to the charges of assaulting and biting his wife, Irene Dzauda. He said his actions were driven by the fact that Dzauda had pulled and crashed his 'balls'.
"Your Worship, I was under the influence of alcohol. I bit her because she had grabbed my privates," he said.
Mrs Chiundura adjourned the matter to Monday, leaving Mangwende to spend the weekend locked up.
When sentence was delivered on Monday, Mrs Chiundura ordered him to pay a fine of $50.
Prosecuting, Mr Cuthbert Bhosha told the court that on September 7, Mangwende went home drunk around 7.30pm and had a misunderstanding with his wife over a phone handset.
Mangwende assaulted his wife accusing her of being a woman of loose morals.
The court heard that the fight lasted for two hours and Dzauda sustained injuries all over her body.
A medical report from Mutare Provincial Hospital was produced as an exhibit.
In an unrelated matter, a Honde Valley woman, Petronella Mheta (20), was assaulted by her husband, Blessing Nyahwema (28), with fists all over her body after confronting him for bringing home another wife.
The court heard that Mheta wanted to know whether the three of them would be sharing the same bedroom, a move that did not go down well with her husband.
Mrs Chiundura slapped Blessing with a $50 fine or 30 days imprisonment.
"Build another bedroom for the new wife if you have decided to stay with two wives and learn to control your temper," said Mrs Chiundura.
