Robbers raid Bona Mugabe’s mansion

THREE armed robbers pounced on an upmarket property under construction owned by former President Robert Mugabe’s daughter, Bona Chikore, and got away with construction material worth $4 800 after disarming the police officer guarding the premises in Harare’s Umwinsdale suburb.

The trio Robson Kandenga (45), Peter Mangwiro (40) and Brighton Chisiko (30) pleaded guilty to the charges yesterday when they appeared before magistrate, Tilda Mazhande who remanded them to tomorrow for sentencing.

The court heard that on December 31 last year, the convicts acting in connivance, stormed Bona’s private property armed with metal bars and pretending to be lost.
As soon as the police officer emerged from the guard room, one of the convicts grabbed his AK-47 service rifle and started assaulting him with metal bars, feet and open hands.

They tied the police officer’s hands and legs with wire, which they picked at the site.

After assaulting the police officer, the convicts went through his pockets and stole $15 cash, a wallet containing his identification particulars and two mobile phones.

They then stole 80 Chinese-made wooden construction boards and loaded the loot into a hired truck driven by Shadreck Chivambe.

Police later recovered one construction board at Siyaso, Magaba in Mbare after Howard Karima, who worked for the Chinese construction firm, Hualong Construction Company, positively identified it.
Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
