A Harare man wants to divorce his wife because he feels her family overcharged him in setting the bride price (lobola).
Ngoni Mudonhi approached the Civil Court last week seeking a peace order against his wife.
He said when he asked his wife to return to her parents’ home they demanded $1 300, hence the application for a peace order.
Mudonhi said his wife had been living with his uncle since her family refused to take her back without the payment.
His wife, Priscilla, said she was no longer interested in the marriage but wanted her husband to pay the money demanded by her parents.
However, magistrate Lanzini Ncube refused to grant Mudonhi the peace order and advised the couple to use proper channels if they wanted to divorce.
