Political parties are getting into the homestretch as 2018 elections beckon and there is a sentiment that generally Zanu PF has produced stronger Parliamentary candidates than those emerging in the MDC T Alliance primary elections.
The Zanu PF candidates are well resourced as most of them are technocrats, lawyers, captains of industry and successful businessmen. MDC T candidates are generally working class coming from retired Police officers, teachers civil servants and political activists.
Analysts who spoke to The Mirror on condition of anonymity said the question of the social class of candidates comes with issues like clout, influence and resources to oil the election machinery which may see the going very tough for the MDC T.
The analysts noted that except for a few medical doctors one or two wealth businessmen, MDC T has no candidates in the upper social class. Zanu PF's notable candidates are the likes of Winston Chitando, a captain of industry, Retired Brigadier General Gwanetsa, a revered soldier, Crispen Thomu a successful; businessmen.
However, another analyst said elections are not a question of social class but popularity and said that MDC T would win the day propelled by its protest politics.
MDC T however will see a titanic battle in Masvingo urban between a lawyer and successful businessman Takanayi Mureyi. Lawyer Eriam Musendekwa who is in Gutu South is another formidable candidate for MDC T in Gutu North there is Edmore Maramwidze to beat. Maramwidze will have to fight out Dr Tichinani Mavetera.
