A SHAMVA family is up in arms with authorities at Shamva District Hospital as they demanded answers for the mutilated corpse of their relative.
Drama occurred and business came to a standstill on Wednesday at the hospital as one of the hospital administrators ran for dear life from the deceased’s family whose corpse was found with missing flesh around the mouth area.
According to the Chipinduku family, the deceased was taken to the hospital’s mortuary for a night.
All hell broke loose the following day when the Chipindukus were about to collect the corpse only to discover it had missing lower lip and the chin.
However, there are also reports that this is not the first such case to be reported at SDH.
“I guess you are the right arm to help us get answers we are seeking from SDH administration on what happened to our relative’s corpse.
“Just imagine we only left the corpse on Tuesday awaiting for burial on Wednesday and upon collection we found the corpse defaced,” said a family representative.
“Even though we might decide to turn a blind eye on the issue, chances are high that this calamity will continue taking place at the hospital if not addressed on time.
“So we want explanations or else we leave the corpse in custody of the administration until we come and perform further rituals here.
“This is not the first time receiving reports on issues like this from people who would have kept their corpse with SDH but I was never convinced until today.”
Contacted for a comment, Provincial Medical Director for Mashonaland Central, Tendayi Kamuriwo confirmed the case.
“I confirm having received the case, investigations into the matter are still underway.
“Will only comment in few days on basis of our findings,” he said.
