Kaukonde flees to South Africa while Goche 'hides' in hospital over plot to kill Mugabe

Former Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial chair Ray Kaukonde has fled to South Africa after being linked to a plot to kill President Mugabe and replace him with Vice-President Joice Mujuru.President Mugabe yesterday revealed: “We hear Kaukonde is now in South Africa. That is why he is not here.”
Kaukonde is believed to be the main financier of the Mujuru faction.

His centrality to the plot to unseat President Mugabe was first publicly revealed by First Lady and Zanu-PF Women’s League boss Amai Grace Mugabe, who also accused him of prodding former Politburo member Dr Simba Makoni to rebel and form an opposition party.

He — together with VP Mujuru and former secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa — did not attend the 6th Zanu-PF Congress that ended in Harare last night.

Mutasa, who is the out-going Zanu PF secretary of Administration and Minister of Presidential Affairs was reportedly flown to South Africa recently to get some medical treatment.

Also not feeling well is the out-going Zanu PF secretary for Transport and Minister Nicholas Goche who was reportedly in Intensive Care Unit in the capital. However sources who spoke to My Zimbabwe news claimed that it was better for any senior official linked to Vice President Mujuru to “make himself sick” and be in hospital till waters settle.

“Dr Amai PF chiwororo, hona ana Goche naMutasa vakuzviisa vega mumahospital. The atmosphere is tense and sombre such that the best place for a minister linked to VP Mujuru is the hospital where a doctor will only allow 2 visitors per session, and that’s obviously your wife and your child. Vachabuda after congress because situation inenge yagadzikana,” a Zanu PF official told My Zimbabwe News.
