A 50-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo’s Entumbane suburb allegedly rap_ed his co-tenant’s daughter (10) for over a year and gave her 50c each time he abused her.
The man allegedly rap_ed the minor who is a Grade 3 pupil, since January 2017.
The man was in the habit of calling the girl into his room while her parents were not home. He would then rap_e her and give her 50 cents saying her mother would beat her if she spilt the beans.
He was not asked to plead to rap_e charges when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Lungile Ncube on Monday.
The magistrate remanded him in custody to June 12 for provision of a trial date at the regional court.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecuting, Memory Ndlovu said on an unknown date but in January 2017 the man called the minor into his room and locked the door.
“He removed his trousers before removing the girl’s clothes. He laid the girl on the bed facing upwards and rap_ed her. The girl did not cry because he threatened that if she told anyone she was going to be beaten by her mother. After the incident the man gave her 50 cents,” said Ndlovu.
“Since that day the accused person would call the minor inside his room and rap_e her on several occasions. He would give her 50 cents in return. On Sunday he invited the girl to his room, the girl’s father called her several times but she did not respond. After some minutes the man came out of the house and started counting his money while the girl’s father was seated outside. After about 10 minutes the girl also came out of the man’s room.”
When the girl’s father asked her what she was doing in the man’s room, the accused came to her defence saying that she was coming from the kitchen.
The court heard that the matter came to light when the girl’s aunt was called to interview the girl who narrated her ordeal.
A police report was filed leading to the man’s arrest and the girl was referred to hospital for medical examination.
