Latest on Zimbabwe’s Presidential Election


The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is set to announce Presidential election results at 12:30 PM today. ZEC was scheduled to announce another batch of National Assembly results at 10:00AM today.

Commissioner Qhubani Moyo revealed in a brief statement that the commission will announce the results and the remaining parliamentary seats at midday today, Wednesday.

“Announcement of Presidential Election results and remaining parliamentary election results at 1230pm today,” said Moyo.

The race for the presidential seat has now been narrowed between MDC Alliance President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Zanu PF’s Presidential Candidate, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

Zanu-PF has so far attained 109 seats, with MDC-Alliance getting 41, National Patriotic Front (NPF) one seat and one independent. They are 58 seats to be declared. Even if MDC Alliance wins all the seats it will not surpass 100.

Zimbabweans are eagerly waiting for the presidential result which the MDC Alliance claims their candidate Nelson Chamisa won.

The party has been holding celebrations of the victory at its offices in Harare since Tuesday morning.
