MDC Alliance youth leader ARRESTED, police take him to Gweru

Highfield MP Happymore 'Cde Bvondo' Chidziva

MDC youth leader and MP-elect Happymore Chidziva, arrested on alleged incitement of public violence, could miss swearing in this Wednesday after police reportedly took him to Gweru Monday for court appearance.

According to the party, the firebrand MDC Alliance politician committed the alleged offence at a campaign rally in Gweru just before the July 30 elections.

He presented himself at the Harare Law and Order division on Monday.

He was accompanied by his Lawyer, Jeremiah Bhamu, Chamunorwa Madya, the MDC national youth deputy secretary general, Mafaiti Mubayiwa.

Madya and Mafaiti are being charged with the August 1 violence which saw the army deployed to quell the violence open fire on civilians, killing six, as announced by the police.

The two will appear in court this Tuesday.

Chidziva was reportedly transferred to Gweru for both investigations and initial court appearance.

However, should he fail to deal with initial court processes by Tuesday, the newly elected MP for Highfield West could miss Wednesday’s swearing in which has been slated for 10am in parliament.

He is not the first among a handful MDC Alliance top leaders who have been arraigned before the local courts recently over a slew of almost similar offences.

MDC Alliance co-principal Tendai Biti is being tried for allegedly announcing the results of the just ended election in contravention of the Electoral Act, as well as inciting public violence.

Party national chair Morgen Komichi is being accused of disrupting the announcement of the presidential elections by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
