Nelson Chamisa's MDC Alliance appoints Senate and Parliament leaders


The MDC Alliance has appointed Vice President Elias Mudzuri and party spokesperson Tabitha Khumalo as leaders of the opposition in the Senate and National Assembly respectively.

In a statement released soon after a caucus meeting of parliamentarians, attended by the party President Nelson Chamisa, MDC Alliance announced Khumalo and Mudzuri’s appointments together with Midlands senator Lilian Timveos, Paurina Mpariwa and Dangamvura-Chikanga legislator, Prosper Mutseyami among others.

According to the MDC Alliance, MDC Alliance National Chairperson, Morgen Komichi will deputize Mudzuri while Mpariwa was appointed as Khumalo’s deputy.

Mutseyami was appointed the party’s chief whip in the National Assembly taking over from Innocent Gonese while Timveos takes charge of the senate.

“During the caucus, Chamisa implored his party parliamentarians on the need for outstanding behavior as well as keeping in close contact with the electorate in line with the party’s values of participatory democracy and listening leadership.

“The President reiterated the need for outstanding behavior from the leaders, and a conscious demonstration of the desire to addressing of the nation’s problems from the MDC Team.

“To this end he emphasized the need for leaders to go back to the people who elected them into office and touch base with issues on the ground in line with the MDC values of participatory democracy and a listening leadership,” noted MDC Alliance.

The party reported that Chamisa castigated the culture of corruption, telling his party leadership to usher a fresh breath of air in pursuit of a clean, transparent governance system free from corruption.

Chamisa urged his party parliamentarians that if they join Zanu PF’s corrupt tendencies, people will punish the party in the next elections.

“If we join Zanu PF’s corrupt tendencies, the people will punish us in the next election,” said Chamisa calling on opposition parliamentarians to play an effective oversight role in holding to account those in public offices.
