Zimbabwe’s powerful Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is apparently admitted at a private hospital in Harare – where he is being treated for a yet to be disclosed ailment.
This comes few months after the former army chief disclosed that he was suffering from effects of skin cancer that was giving him and his wife a pale complexion.
“VP is in Hospital but we do not yet know what he is suffering from… we are all humans we fall sick,” said source who requested anonymity.
Chiwenga’s health has been the focus of much speculation after he told mourners at the burial of his sister Margaret Machekabuwe that his complexion was changing due to nhuta (a skin disease). The Vice President said South African specialists had “failed to treat him.”
“It was then that my (late) sister Margaret approached Sister Redemptor (Roman Catholic nun) and was given herbs that I began taking until I was healed,” he said.
Pictures appearing to show his swollen hands have been widely shared on social media platforms, furthering speculation that he may be having health problems.
The Vice President was last seen in public on the 28th of September at his sister’s memorial in Marondera.
Sources also said yesterday that affable Foreign Affairs and International Trade minister, Sibusiso Moyo, was still battling for his life in hospital after undergoing a ‘successful’ operation.
Chiwenga and SB Moyo shot to stardom when they spearheaded the overthrow of longtime leader, Robert Mugabe, in November 2017.
