Another boost for MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa: EU observers lambast Priscilla Chigumba’s 2018 elections

The European Union (EU) election observer mission has said the 2018 elections fell short of international standards due to numerous discrepancies.

In its final report published today, the European Observer Mission said Zimbabwe’s 2018 elections “failed to meet international standards” and “the results as announced… contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceabiity, transparency and verifiability.”

“The misuse of state resources, instances of coercion and intimidation, partisan behaviour by traditional leaders and overt bias in state media, all in favour of the ruling party, meant that a truly level playing field was not achieved,” reads part of the report.

The damning document will likely be seized on by opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa who has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of rigging the election by changing the results at the National Command Centre.
