WAR veteran Cde Jane Nyathi has died. She was 60.
Cde Nyathi whose war name was Ntombikayise Mdluli, died at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo on Wednesday and was declared a Liberation War Heroine.
She will be buried at Bulawayo Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Nkulumane tomorrow. Cde Nyathi was born on 17 October 1958 in Gwanda’s Ntalale-Pelele area.
She did her primary education at Pelele Primary School.
After completing her primary education she joined the war of liberation in 1977 through Botswana at Selibe-Phikwe Camp which was under the command of Cde Makepesi.
She stayed at Selibe-Phikwe camp for a few days before being air-lifted to neighbouring Zambia.
In Zambia, Cde Nyathi and other comrades were taken to Victory Camp then to Mkushi Camp to undergo their military training camp under the command of Commander Billy Mzamo.
After the camp was bombed, she moved with others to Solwezi Camp which was under the command of the late Eddie Sigoge Mlotshwa. After cease fire she returned home and stayed in Bulawayo.
After Zimbabwe’s first elections she went to Seira Assembly Point near Gweru and in 1981 was demobilised. She returned to her rural home to stay with her parents. In the same year she got married to Mr Moses Dube.
The couple was blessed with six children.
