Police release names and ages of people who died in Checheche kombi-haulage truck accident


THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the names of some of the nine victims who died in an accident that occurred at the 185km peg along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road near Checheche business centre on Sunday involving a commuter omnibus and a Green Fuel cane truck.

Five victims who were identified are Conilias Nyanzero (31), male, from Chiredzi, Trish Goza (9) female, Chipinge, Chenjerai White (44) male, Chisumbanje, Victor Madziva (22), male, Chiredzi and Trephine Sithole (32) a male, from Chisumbanje.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, in a statement released yesterday said they were yet to identify the remaining four victims — two men and two women — whose bodies were at St Peter’s Hospital Mortuary in Chisumbanje and called on members of the public whose relatives are missing to contact Chisumbanje Police Station.

He urged members of the public to carry identification particulars when travelling.

“The police express deepest condolence to the bereaved families. The ZRP is disturbed by the spate of road traffic accidents involving head-on collisions which have been recorded on country’s roads recently,” the statement read.

“Drivers should avoid overtaking when road conditions do not allow them to do so. Police urge drivers of haulage trucks and public service vehicles to be responsible and be a beacon of good driving conduct on the roads.”
