LATEST: Zanu PF senior official ARRESTED

A ZANU PF Mashonaland West political commissar has been arrested and charged with fraud involving $10 000.

Simon Solomom, 50, and his co-accused Enia Chuma and Japhet Kaswaurere were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

It is the State case that sometime between March last year and September this year, one Freeman Mhlanga went to Chegutu district lands office in search of land under the land reform programme for farming but there was none available.

Mhlanga was then introduced to Chuma who was said to have the capacity to assist him in getting the land.

Chuma told Mhlanga that Simon Solomon owned some plots which he had for sell which resulted in a meeting amongst the three.

The land was initially charged at $15 000 but after negotiations it was reduced to $12 000.

It is alleged that Mhlanga was taken to Silver Star Farm in Kadoma by the trio where he was shown two pieces of land and was interested.

The other plot was alleged to be owned by Vengesai Kurimakwaramba who wrote an affidavit confirming he owns the said plot.

This prompted Mhlanga to transfer $10 000 to Solomom’s account and was given a fake confirmation of land ownership letter by Kaswaurere who is employed by the Ministry of Lands in Mhondoro as a data capture clerk contrary to his duties.

The trio assured Mhlanga that the offer letter would be processed in due course but it never materialized and he was prejudiced of $10 000.

The State led by Linda Gadzikwa opposed bail on the basis that if released on bail, Solomon is likely to interfere with State witnesses considering his influential position in Kadoma.

Gadzikwa went on to call the investigating officer Elizabeth Muzorodza who also opposed bail on the basis that Solomon is likely to skip trial as he resisted arrest and coming to court by refusing to sign summons on three accounts.
