William Mushangwe, a teacher at Chikwiza Secondary School in Eastdale in Gutu was killed in an accident on Thursday last week when a Nissan Caravan in which he was travelling burst a left rear tyre and overturned several times at the 74km peg along Chivhu – Roy Road.
The place where the accident happened is called Mazongororo and it is near Matizha Business Centre in Serima.
The accident happened at around 1pm soon after Mushangwe had closed school and was on his way to his father Leonard Mushangwe’s farm 149 Dewure West in Gutu. One other person Fungai Pelvin Manyere (46) from Dzivarasekwa Harare also died in the accident.
Manyere died on the spot while Mushangwe died on admission at Gutu Mission Hospital. Mushangwe’s father is a renowned educationist who was once the head of Gutu Central Primary School.
Police Spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the accident and encouraged drivers to check their tyres before travelling.
“We encourage drivers to check their tyres before every journey and they should travel at recommended speeds so that they are able to control their vehicles in case of a tyre burst,” said Mazula.
There were six passengers in the vehicle and the driver was Wadzanai Mungwari (27) of Mungwari Village under Chief Makumbe in Buhera.
