Police have confirmed the death of an Uzumba man who committed suicide recently by taking poison after his wife had snubbed his suggestion to pay lobola to her parents.
It is understood that the couple had managed to acquire some money and the husband, Whyson Mapuranga (32), wanted to use that money to settle his lobola arrears with his in-laws.
However, Mapuranga’s wife was against the idea and told her husband that they should instead relocate to Harare where they would build a new house.
“Instead, Mapuranga was unhappy with his wife’s decision and chose to end his life by drinking poison. A suicide note found on him read that he was disappointed with his wife’s decision stopping him from paying lobola but instead for them to use the money to build a house in Harare,” Mwanza said.
