Ward 12 residents are up in arms against Zanu PF Chirumanzi – Zibagwe MP Prosper Machando who allegedly removed roofing material from Savannah Primary School and used them on a party office in Mvuma.
Savannah Primary School head Shumba confirmed the incident to The Mirror. The school is in Chirumhanzu.
“I can confirm that iron sheets were removed from some infrastructure under the custody of the school and taken away by the MP. I however did not receive any written request from his office,” said Shumba.
Shumba told The Mirror that he told Chirumhanzu District Administrator (DA) Tapson Chivanga about the issue.
Machando admitted to The Mirror that he took away the sheets from a school property. He said he took away 21 sheets from the school to build a veranda. He said he was authorised to do so by the DA’s office.
He however did not avail the voucher when The Mirror requested for it.
“Maybe there are unscrupulous individuals who are stealing the sheets under the guise of my instruction. I am the one who suggested for proper storage of the sheets after I discovered that members of the public were vandalising the material,” said Machando.
Sources however said Machando had also constructed a car garage at his residence in Mushayavhudzi Location using some of the roofing material, but he denied the allegations.
Contacted for comment, Chirumhanzu DA Tapson Chivanga said he was in a meeting.
Zanu Pf Midlands provincial spokesperson Cornelius Mupereri said he was not aware of the issue but would investigate.
