IN a suspected case of infidelity, a junior police officer on Tuesday locked himself in his house and burnt himself to death in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza Tinashe Jala, stationed at Chitungwiza Police Station under the ICT section, was reported to have been involved in a domestic violence case with his wife Sibongile Shana, who is also a police officer, sometime last week forcing some of the relatives to come and try to settle their dispute.

Tinashe is said to have accompanied Shana to a bus stop and returned home where he locked the doors and screens before setting himself on fire, according to neighbours.

He was 30.

Impeccable sources close to the family told H-Metro that Jala discovered love messages from three different men after hacking Shana's WhatsApp messages through WhatsApp web.

"The two were living peacefully until they engaged their relatives over a misunderstanding and Shana's sister decided to stay with their two kids saying their misunderstanding should not affect the kids," said the source.

"Jala discovered through a WhatsApp web that Shana was cheating him with three different men and this did not go well with him and I want to believe this is the end result.

"Shana is reported to have been refusing to go for HIV tests and contact numbers of the three alleged men were shared with Jala's brother.

"Neighbours told us that today (yesterday) Jala accompanied his wife to bus stop and he didn't show anything negative only to return and lock himself in the house.

"Neighbours sweated in vain to gain entry into the locked house after they spotted smoke coming out of the house and women took turns to put off the fire but all was in vain.

"We are still to get to the bottom of the story and Shana heard about this tragedy and decided to remain at her workplace for unexplained reasons," said the source.

Shana could not be reached for comment and efforts to get a comment from police were fruitless by the time of going to print.

Police removed the body of the deceased and took to it to Chitungwiza Central Hospital and mourners gathered at house 2320 St Marys in Chitungwiza.
